Last Saturday, ABS-CBN's "Maalaala Mo Kaya" featured the touching life story of the first grand champion of "The Voice Kids Philippines," Lyca Gairanod. While most of her fans already know her early life struggles, it just became even more clear that her victory not only matters but she's also well deserving of it. It's really no question that her incredible voice is blew us all away but some are quite unhappy with the results, saying that she won out of "pity."
But still majority loved her, loved her story. So we asked Mitoy Yonting, "The Voice of the Philippines" first grand champion, his take on the 9-year-old singing sensation's win. He credited "pagpapakatotoo" as their common trait as to why the Philippines both loved them, "Kung ano ako bilang ako at kung ano siya bilang si Lyca, pinakita niya yun."
