Roberts who was investigating on illegal dumping interviewed a homeless man rummaging for valuables. To Roberts' surprise, Malone shares that "At one time I was with the Santana band, the original Santana blues band. Now, I'm homeless and on the streets". According to Kron 4, Roberts was skeptical at first but after confirming Malone's identity, he tracked Malone and brought the two artists together.
