Fil-Am Malaya Watson successfully advanced to the next round of American Idol 13. The theme for that episode are songs from Billboard's Top 100 hits from 2013/2014. And with the amazing song choices from the list, Malaya opted to perform the song "When I Was Your Man" by another Pinoy singer, Bruno Mars. And it drew amazing feedback.
Jennifer Lopez was initially worried for her song choice but towards the end of the song, there were nothing but praises for her rendition. "I'm not gonna lie. I was ready to kinda hate on you in the beginning. I was, because I said to Keith, 'she's to sing 'When I Was Your Man,' is she gonna change it, what's she gonna do with it', and you decided to just leave it the same, and it didn't affect me at all," she said.
Judges Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. also commended her sincere and beautiful version of the song and they even said that the song choice pulled things back.
Malaya along with Dexter Roberts and Jessica Meuse, were the first three contestants to know their fate that night. In the end, it was MK Nobilette wo was eliminated from the show.
